We can grieve places we’ve never lived.<\/p>\n
Futures we’ve never stepped into.<\/p>\n
Conversations that never happened.<\/p>\n
People who never became ours.<\/p>\n
Sometimes we even grieve versions of ourselves we never got to become.<\/p>\n
How do you explain that kind of sadness?<\/p>\n
Nothing was stolen.<\/p>\n
No promises were broken.<\/p>\n
No one necessarily did anything wrong.<\/p>\n
And yet\u2014<\/p>\n
something hurts.<\/p>\n
It’s the kind of grief that’s hard to talk about.<\/p>\n
Because on paper, it doesn’t make sense.<\/p>\n

People see an unanswered prayer.<\/p>\n

People see a door that never opened.<\/p>\n
You see the room you had already walked into a hundred times in your mind.<\/p>\n
People say,<\/p>\n
“It wasn’t even yours.”<\/p>\n
Maybe not.<\/p>\n
But your heart had already made room for it.<\/p>\n
The attachment isn’t greed.<\/p>\n
It’s imagination.<\/p>\n
And imagination is a beautiful thing\u2014<\/p>\n
and a quietly dangerous one.<\/p>\n
It doesn’t just create dreams.<\/p>\n
It settles into them.<\/p>\n
It paints walls.<\/p>\n
